Arriving at school each day, children enter through a central playing courtyard - a positive space which celebrates the social aspects of school life. The courtyard is bordered by classrooms to the west and service spaces to the east. This arrangement ensures movement across the play space at appropriate intervals.

The roof structure is made up of a retractable, colourful louvre system that sits over the building masses in order to create shaded space for the central play space. The scheme also works with principles of stack effect, wind paths and thermal efficiency to passively maintain comfortable temperatures.

Working with perforated brick screens and large, habitable open spaces, the building glows in the evening, forming a welcoming entrance both during the day and at night.
