DESMOND tutu HIV research clinic
A new building for the Desmond Tutu HIV Foundation's medical research will announce itself with a clean, bold facade, indicative of the progressive work that the Foundation is doing.
Designed at an angle the new clinic meets sensitively with its adjacent building with clear access to the ground story labs and 1st storey offices.
The evenly spaced aluminium fins of the facade screen face due North to maximise on natural daylight. From this angle (due East) one is presented a clean/solid geometry. As one moves around the building glimpses and views to what lies behind are subtly revealed. Furthermore the permeable screen affords privacy to the offices and administrative work, but also provides a social space in which researches can collaborate and learn.
